She chose to get married on the 4th of July, because she feels so blessed to get to live in America. Then she told me why, because here in America, parents do not have to call their children to tell them to run home because some one has set off a bomb a block over from the mall. Parents don’t normally have to worry about their children being killed simple because they wanted to go hang out with their friends, but in other countries, they do. I realized as we sat over a sushi lunch, that many of the worries we as Americans have, are petty. It is the simple things she feels so blessed to have, and looking through her eyes, I began to see that we live sheltered lives, blessed lives, lives we take for granted most days. I have never felt more honored to cover a wedding, to meet a family, and to share in the story of their lives than this beautiful couple. There were toast that spoke of the miracle of their love, the blessing they are to others, and the joy they both have in their love of family and friends. True words, if ever any were spoken. They spent the day surrounded by joy, laughter, and a few sweet tears of happiness. It was most definitely the best way to celebrate Independence Day, with an amazing group of friends, of family.
