While we are busy making plans.
I remember her smile above everything else and the way we used to laugh together when I would go to her house as a teen and spend the weekend. I remember when I was 15 and my naturally curly hair used to get a massive tangle underneath every time I washed it. One night I cut that tangle out thinking no one would notice because it was “under” my other hair. Wrong. Big time. I woke up the next morning, after my hair dried, looking like Shirley Temple, with shoulder length hair, that used to be almost to my knees. She was the one who fixed my very crooked, bad, self hair cut, never judging me, never criticizing me. At 17, she gave me my first TV, a little 12 inch black and white. I was so proud of it, I felt like I had arrived to some invisible level of pre-adulthood, and I am pretty sure I poked my chest out like a rooster and strutted to my car with it in my arms. I remember her smiling so big her eyes crinkled, because I was so excited. When I think of her, I think of gentleness, sweetness, and faithfulness to God. To me, it is who she was. My sweet Aunt.
When I found out yesterday that my Aunt Barbara had passed on from this life, so unexpected, so sudden, it felt sad, shocking, scary, like a dream, all at one time. Sixty-six years doesn’t seem like nearly long enough to have lived, and thirty-two was not nearly long enough to have been blessed with her as an Aunt. I began to remember all those times, moments, and laughs we shared. My heart feels broken and numb all at one time.
Life ebbs and flows, it begins and ends whether we want to believe it, accept it, or get angry about it. So today I was going to blog about something totally different, I had my plan, but life had other plans, and instead I am saying a goodby to a precious person in my own way, hoping it reminds some of you to call that loved one that you have let life distract you from connecting with.
Because,
Life is what happens while we are busy making other plans.
My Aunt Doris, my mom, & my Aunt Barbara.

I am a Wedding & Lifestyle photographer, Spider hater, hot tea drinker, sarcasm loving, mom of two boys, and center of my sexy hubby’s world. I truly believe there is no better job than to capture the memories of the most special times in a client’s life. I believe in passion, in love, in forever lasting romance, in hope, in joy, and in laughing until you almost pee yourself, because laughter heals the heart. I believe the glass is half full…and even if it really is half empty, I’d rather not know. I choose a smile over a frown, tears of joy over tears of sorrow, and I believe that brokenness makes your stronger, not weaker, so take the negative life may throw your way, and turn it into the stepping block you need to climb higher in life, always keep yourself at the higher level instead of lowering yourself down to the level of others.
